Lessons with Paula are fun and relaxed, stress-free! She is able to zero in on “problem areas” with helpful, practical insight and tips. While Paula works with me at my skill (advanced intermediate?) level and genre preference (jazz, standards, lighter classical), she encourages me to branch out into new areas. She is resourceful with literature suggestions and samples. I highly recommend Paula Harkness to students at any age or skill level. (I am an “older “ adult. In my former career as a school administrator, I had occasion to evaluate teachers, many in the music department.)

Paula is a master at the piano. Learning to play herself at a very young age has enabled her to teach children and adults for decades. Playing by ear as well has helped her successfully teach sight impaired students. Remarkable teacher!

The Piano Studio is one of the friendliest and most welcoming places there is. Not only does the space calm you, but the teacher is one of the most positive and calming people you’ll ever meet. She is such an amazing teacher for students of all levels. She makes you feel at home when you’re with her and she gets to know you so you feel like she’s a friend and not an instructor. She has the amazing ability to make you love music and the art of playing piano. Her studio is a safe space where you don’t only have to worry about making a mistake, but she doesn’t see it as a bad thing. She encourages the idea of learning through mistakes and realizing that the first time you play something, it won’t be perfect and that’s okay!
